The TranzCoastal runs north, traveling over 62 miles of coastline from Christchurch (the main city of the South Island), along the east coast. Then along the rugged coastline tracks with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the spectacular Kaikoura Mountains on the other. Northward, the TranzCoastal veers inland through the Marlborough wine area to the picturesque port of Picton. At Picton, the TranzCoastal links with The Interislander ferry to and from Wellington.
